The Aim of 'Butterfly Sanctuaries of Southern Africa' (BSSA), is to establish nine new Provincial Butterfly Sanctuaries in Southern Africa. One for each province. These are tourist destinations and will be supported through local and international tourism, local communities and members.

The Sanctuary names in red are booked and will not be available as business enterprises for twelve months from the date of the booking having taken place. After the twelve month period, should the intended Sanctuary not have been attempted to be built, then the booked Sanctuary will become available.  Sanctuary names marked in Black  are available for booking.

  • Kwa-Zulu Natal Butterfly Sanctuary (KZNBS)

  • Eastern Cape Butterfly Sanctuary (ECBS)

  • Western Cape Butterfly Sanctuary (WCBS)

  • Northern Cape Butterfly Sanctuary (NCBS)

  • North West Butterfly Sanctuary (NWBS)

  • Limpopo Butterfly Sanctuary (LBS)

  • Free State Butterfly Sanctuary (FSBS)

  • Gauteng Butterfly Sanctuary (GBS)

  • Mpumalanga Butterfly Sanctuary (MBS)

These are planned and designated Butterfly Sanctuaries to be established, one for each Province of South Africa. These will have a uniformity and will have regulatory measures in place to guide each Sanctuary correctly by means of a code of conduct presented by (BSSA/SABBA).
 

Provincial Butterfly Breeding Centers
All these Provincial Butterfly Breeding Centers (as listed below), will fall under the umbrella of BUTTERFLY SANCTUARIES OF SOUTHERN AFRICA (BSSA), who is affiliated to South African Butterfly Breeding Association (SABBA)
and Conservation of Butterflies in South Africa (CBISA).
 

Each Sanctuary will be supported by four Provincial Butterfly Breeding Centers. These will be supported through local tourism, local communities and members. The Butterfly Breeding centers in red are booked and will not be available as business enterprises for six months from the date of the booking having taken place. After the six month period, should the intended Butterfly Breeding Center not have materialized, then the booked Butterfly Breeding Center will become available.   Butterfly Breeding Center names marked in Black are available for booking.
